In the front of your phone book should be a phone number for a domestic violence hot line. This is a good starting point for getting help. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is Toll Free: 1-800-799-SAFE It is also very important to get local law enforcement involved. I have listed a few links to assist you in getting help. Just CLICK the pictures to a direct LINK.  
The salvation Army can also refer you to agencies in your area. United Way supports many shelters and organizations. You can contact your local United Way for services and shelter information.
There is also the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence which offers information and a referral center. Click the getting help button. National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE)
For helpful information check out Domestic Violence Handbook at The National Organization for Women N.O.W. is an organization that supports women's rights and lobby's for legislation that will protect women. If you contact a local chapter they will be able to refer you to shelters and other services. I did not list women's shelters for the sole reason that there are so many. Instead I listed just a few organizations that can help you find a shelter. The word shelter may put a pit in you stomach and you may envision a cot in a dirty place. This is not the case. Women's shelters have gone out of their way to make sure it is a safe and nurturing place to be. The definition of Shelter is: Something that covers or protects, protection or a place affording protection, from the elements or DANGER a refuge. My Sisters please take shelter.....
